WILKERSON WINS AWARD Kay Wilkerson, who recently retired as director of the Student Health Service at ECU, has received the Charles Bohmann Award from the Southern College Health Association. The award, the highest honor given by the association, recognizes outstanding leaders who have established impressive standards for excellence and service. Jerry Barker, director of the health service at N.C. State University, said, "The ECU Student Health Service program is highly regarded by members of SCHA as a comprehensive, high-quality, efficient and cost-effective health service. Kay's leadership has been instrumental in the development of its quality program and its recognition, but it is evident that there are strong leaders and caring professionals in each of the health service units for the department to be so strong." The award was presented this spring at the association's annual meeting in Charlotte. NEW MEDIA CENTER DESIGNATION ECU has been designated a New Media Center by the New Media Consortium. The consortium is an organization of 125 leading universities that focuses on promoting creativity and innovation among and between corporate entities and higher education for the benefit of student learning, faculty development, and staff proficiency in using new media tools and technologies. This award recognized ECU's accomplishments in collaborative technologies, scientific visualization and computational science, and public outreach. ECU will provide solid leadership for fellow New Media Centers in the integration of technology in teaching, learning, research, and creative expression at all levels within the higher education community. ECU was one of 50 institutions inducted into the New Media Consortium this year.
