Four new board members to be sworn in

Four new members will be sworn in at the meeting of the East Carolina University Board of Trustees on Wednesday (July 30). The board also will elect officers for this fiscal year.

The new members are David Brody, a Kinston businessman and philanthropist; Robert J. Greczyn Jr. of Durham, president and CEO of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina; former state Rep. David Redwine of Brunswick County, and William H. Bodenhamer Jr., a Florida parking company executive.

Here are details about the new members:

The new members replace Chairman Charles Franklin of Elizabeth City, director of the Albemarle Mental Health Center; Mayor Tom Bayliss of New Bern; D. Jordan Whichard III of Greenville, publisher of The Daily Reflector, and Betty Speir of Bethel, a retired educator.

The ECU board has 13 members with eight appointed by the University of North Carolina Board of Governor and four named by the governor. The president of the Student Government Association, elected by the student body, is also a member.

In other business, the board is expected to decide on a site for a new Pirate Club building and consider design proposals for the new baseball stadium. The board is also scheduled to hear a presentation on the university's budget for the coming academic year and an update on the diabetes/obesity program at the Brody School of Medicine.
