Mind's Fire, Selections From a Photographic Diary
As part of our 35th Anniversary Celebration, the East Carolina University
School of Allied Health Sciences is sponsoring a photo exhibit titled,
"Mind's Fire, Selections From a Photographic Diary of Rehab and Recovery."
The exhibit is located in
the Ed Warren Life Sciences Building, Rooms 202 and 204.
The exhibit artistically shows a personal side of
stroke. At the age of 41, Dr. Heidi Kelley, Director, Liberal Arts Learning
and Disability Services and Associate Professor of Anthropology at
UNC-Asheville, suffered a massive stroke leaving her speechless and unable
to move her right side. Her husband, Dr. Ken Betsalel, Chair, Department of
Political Science and Professor of Humanities and Arts and Ideas at
UNC-Asheville, documented her long journey through rehab and recovery with
the photographs. The Betsalels view their exhibit as a chance to educate
other people about stroke, rehab, courage, love, and the need for community.
The exhibit will remain on display in the Brody School of Medicine and then
in the School of Allied Health Sciences through April 4.
