Employees, Teams Recognized
Winners of the 2005 Chancellor’s Synergy Awards and Chancellor’s Awards for Excellence were announced April 12 at a recognition ceremony held in Hendrix Theatre at Mendenhall Student Center. Following opening remarks by Jim Mullen, assistant vice chancellor of Human Resources, Chancellor Steve Ballard recognized nominees and presented the awards.
Out of 20 nominations, five winning teams were selected for the Synergy Awards, designed to reward groups of ECU employees who combine individual talents to create an outcome that would not be possible without effective collaboration.
Winners were the Homecoming Team, for successful inspection and repair to accommodate a large crowd at ECU’s homecoming game; the Facilities Services HVAC Team, for efforts related to providing fresh air and a safe environment where the use of formaldehyde is present; the ECU Renal Transplant team, for efforts related to showing that more living donor transplants may be performed in the African American community; the Housekeeping team, for efforts related to the success of ECU’s housing summer conference and the fall move-in weekend; and the Wellness Education team, for effforts related to providing wellness education programs and events to promote healthy lifestyles for ECU students.
Homecoming team members were Derrick Anderson, Vernon Brown, John Gill, Mark Nash, Patrick Sherrod, Charles Biggs, Robert Cooley, Mike Lanier, Curtis Phillips, Greg White, James Boyd, Larry Davis, Kenny Lewis, John Phillips, Harvey Whitehurst, Randy Bridge, Donald Edmonson, Stery Moore, Mike Riggs, and David Williams. The HVAC team included Jay Collins, George Yiznitsky, Joseph Grimsley, Gray Hamill and Albert Urback, while the Housekeeping Team included Scott Green, Dennis McGee, Linda Phillips and Jackie Smith. The Renal Transplant team members were Dorian Araneda, Gail James, Shante Christian, Deborah Johnston, Kara Grant, Diane Mathis, Carl Haisch and Louise Wilson. Members of the Wellness Education team included Tara Barber, Hope McPhatter, Michelle Carpenter, Karen Warren, Georgia Childs and Tywanna Jeffries.
Nine ECU employees were selected for the Chancellor’s Awards for Excellence. These awards recognize individuals in five categories: devotion to duty, human relations, innovations, public service, and safety and heroism.
Winners were Darrell Andre Carmon for human relations, Marvin Haddock for safety and heroism, Janet Johnson for devotion to duty, George Lanford for devotion to duty, Virgil Pilgreen for devotion to duty, Ray Schmit for innovations, Melissa Smith for public services, Hubert Teel for devotion to duty, and Angela Whitehurst for devotion to duty.
